“We Serve Because We Care”

The Code serves to enhance public confidence in the integrity and service of the funeral service professional.
Adherence to this Code is required for membership in the Manitoba Funeral Service Association.

Code of Ethical Practices

Members of the Manitoba Funeral Service Association shall maintain the highest standard of conduct; act with fairness, integrity and dignity and in a manner not detrimental to the interest of the public, their employer or the MFSA. As members of the Association they agree to abide by this Code.


  1. Members will maintain a high moral standard and provide professional services of the highest quality with dignity and compassion to all.
     
  2. Members will ensure high standards of education, business and professional integrity.
     
  3. Members will ensure that their facilities and equipment are kept in good order and agree to follow all policies and guidelines to maintain the quality and integrity of the funeral establishment and the workplace environment.
     
  4. Members will at the time of need or pre-need clearly and accurately describe the services to be provided and the charges reflective of the families’ needs without pressure.
     
  5. Members will maintain total confidentiality concerning medical and or personal information with respect to the deceased except where required by law.
     
  6. Members will pledge to provide services to all who require them regardless of causes of death. The Association recognizes the responsibility of each individual member firm to modify and adapt services to ensure the safety of the public and employees associated with that firm.
     
  7. All members will accurately disclose in all advertising and promotions their location, services and type of facilities offered.
     
  8. Members will provide service to any family regardless of monetary consideration and will be respectful of those who desire minimum service at minimum cost.
     
  9. All members will work cooperatively with other members of the funeral service profession and other related professions serving the public and will not discredit or attack unfairly other funeral providers and/or related entities.
     
  10. All members must uphold the standards and requirements as written within the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards, including accuracy, clarity, as well as avoidance of unfair price claims and exploitation of consumer fears to mislead the public.

AS FUNERAL DIRECTORS: we acknowledge our obligations to the public, especially to those we serve, and our mutual responsibilities to the funeral service profession.


TO THE PUBLIC WE PLEDGE: vigilant support of all public health laws; and regulations for the members of our profession; devotion to high moral and service standards; honesty in all offerings of service and merchandise.


TO THOSE WE SERVE WE PLEDGE: confidential business and professional relationships; observance of all respect due the deceased; and dignified conduct of all services entrusted to our care.


TO OUR PROFESSION WE PLEDGE: support of high educational standards and proper licensing laws; adherence to sound business practices; observance of all rules of fair competition; to refrain from deceptive advertising; and maintenance of honourable professional relations.
